The Beach at Bude Hotel

The Beach Hotel Bude, Cornwall – Dog Friendly Accommodation Review

Last November we went for a long weekend to Bude, Cornwall and decided to stay at the Beach at Bude hotel in their dog friendly Suite and were pleasantly surprised with how accommodating they were.

Breakfast was served every morning and was great with, a combination of continental and cooked foods available. The lunch/evening restaurant in the hotel is now run by another local operator ‘Elements’ specialising in Italian cuisine (View Menu) where we regularly visit when in Bude so chose to eat there one night of our stay and had a lovely meal.

The Retreat

We stayed in The Retreat which is their dog friendly suite comprised of two bedrooms (both with super-king sized beds; which can be made into twins), a bathroom and a large lounge/kitchen/diner which gives you the option to have dinner in. Plus an additional double sofa bed, so it comfortably sleeps six people in total and plenty of room for a dog, we also took TJs travel crate which is fairly large and there was plenty of room for this in the lounge. The room itself is rear facing so no sea views but The Retreat has its own private entrance at the back of the hotel that leads onto the Summerleaze Downs (a large grassy area) which is less than 50m from your private entrance, so its easy to toilet your dog which can be one of the bigger concerns when staying in a hotel.

Things to do

Bude boasts a variety of dog friendly restaurants and cafe’s. Just a short walk along the cliffs to Crooklets Beach you can enjoy Coffee and a Breakfast or fish and chips and ice-cream at amongst many other culinary delights with your pet friends whilst overlooking the sea at Rosie’s Kitchen which allows dogs inside and also has outdoor seating. At The Olive Tree you can enjoy al fresco dining with your pet friend next to the Bude Canal – plus they serve doggy ice cream right next door (TJ’s Favourite)which will keep your pup entertained whilst you eat. Also worth noting that many of the shops in town are dog friendly which means you don’t have to leave them on their own and most things are within walking distance of the hotel.

Beaches

With so many beaches in the Bude area, it’s perfect to let your dog explore! There are miles of coastline and costal walks to explore, TJ loved going in the Sea and playing in the river on Summerleaze Beach. There are a couple of restrictions to observe as below:

  • Summerleaze Beach – dogs to be on leads between 21st May and 30th September.
  • Widemouth Bay/Crooklets Beach – dogs only allowed between 1st October and 31st March.
  • Sandymouth, Northcott Mouth and Black Rock beach – dog-friendly all year round with no restrictions.

All the Staff in the hotel were super friendly and accomodating. You can find more details on their website www.thebeachatbude.co.uk and its a stay we can definitely recommend for both you and your dog.
